Adopt-a-Classroom with WTSC

In partnership with the Washington Township School Foundation, Second is excited to continue our commitment to supporting local educators through our Adopt-a-Classroom Program. Each year, selected educators receive a $1,000 grant to enrich classroom experiences and spark innovation in student learning. These funds go directly to classroom initiatives—fostering creativity, engagement, and excellence in education.

We are always looking for volunteers to help fund this program along with volunteers to connect with grant recipients. If you are interested in building a relationship with a dedicated teacher in Washington Township, please reach out to Lisa Enright to learn about this opportunity.

Bread for the World

Bread for the World is a Christian advocacy organization urging U.S. decision makers to do all they can to pursue a world without hunger. Our mission is to educate and equip people to advocate for policies and programs that can help end hunger in the U.S. and around the world.

Disaster Relief

In the spring and fall, our church parking lot serves as a collection site for area churches and families to drop off emergency cleanup buckets and hygiene kits. Church World Service distributes these much-needed supplies to those affected by wildfires, hurricanes, flooding, and other disasters in the U.S. and around the world.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (an organization within our denomination) partners with Church World Service to collect, store, and distribute relief kits.

Family Promise

Formerly known as Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), Family Promise works to eliminate homelessness in Greater Indianapolis. The Apartment Shelter Program has expanded to house 24 families, and the Diversion Program works with 20 families at a time. In addition, the AfterCare program provides follow-up case management and workshops for two years after clients secure housing.

Home Repairs for Good

Home Repairs for Good provides critical home repairs for homeowners 62 and older or with a disability living in Marion County at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty line. They provide these repairs at no cost to the homeowner so they may age in place safely.

SAWs

Help build a ramp and change a life! Volunteer opportunities are available for ramp builds. No experience or tools are required — SAWs will provide the leadership and the materials. We just ask that you are willing to learn and serve others. Youth age 12 and up are welcome to volunteer with a parent/guardian. This is the perfect service project for a family with older children.

Streets to Home Indy

Streets to Home Indy is a community-driven campaign to provide permanent housing and supportive services for 350 of our chronically homeless neighbors in Indianapolis by July of 2026. Led by CHIP, this initiative builds on successful grassroots efforts and brings together faith communities, civic leaders, and philanthropic partners to create lasting change.

Thriving Families Initiative

The Thriving Families Initiative connects families facing economic hardship with middle- and upper-income community members to build authentic, mutually supportive relationships. Rooted in faith and community, and anchored by Second Presbyterian Church, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, and Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana, the program offers coaching, team-based support, and regular gatherings. We focus on five core areas: housing, education, employment, health, and social capital—emphasizing meaningful relationships as the key to lasting change.
