FINE ARTS MINISTRY

We believe art is an inherent part of building community, inspiring and enhancing our appreciation of the glory of God. Artists often describe the creation of art as a spiritual practice, but the spiritual practice extends to those who view the art as we reflect upon, seek God’s voice, and respond in gratitude for God’s divine gifts.

Second’s Fine Arts Ministry is coordinated by the Fine Arts Advisory Team, comprised of artists and church members. We offer exhibits, opportunities for art-making and more.

MOSAIC PROJECT

A large and colorful mosaic artwork symbolizing our dedication to rebuilding community, a faithful world, and a better future, is now complete! Thank you to all who visited us in McFarland hall and helped place tiles to build this collaborative piece of art.

The finished mosaic was dedicated on June 16, 2024, and can be viewed in the North alcove of McFarland Hall.

SECOND THOUGHTS ANTHOLOGY

Each fall the Fine Arts team presents The Eighth Day of Creation, an art exhibit featuring works by members of the Second community. This exhibit also includes writings from our community, in a collection we call Second Thoughts.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Penrod Arts Fair Ambassador

We are always looking for ambassadors to staff our Music and Fine Arts information at the annual Penrod Arts Fair at Newfields. Volunteers will receive a free ticket to this September event which features artists, performers, art-related non-profits, local food and beverages for all to enjoy.

Contact Carol Baker for more information or to sign up.

Exhibit Exchange Volunteer

Many hands make light work! Approximately every six weeks, our art exhibits move in and out of McFarland Hall, with the help of our amazing volunteers. No experience is needed. We will simply be removing art from the walls and hanging the new ones. Feel free to bring a friend.

Contact Carol Baker for more information and upcoming exchange dates.
