Shalama Alakhom! Have you heard of the Aramaic Peshitta? This fall using that text we shall learn the language Jesus spoke with its customs, idioms, etc. as we study I and II Thessalonians.
This class gathers for in-depth study of scripture and other topics related to the history and practice of Christian faith. As we study the letters of Paul to the ancient church in Thessalonica (1 and 2 Thessalonians), we will begin with some background information on Aramaic and the history and culture of Thessalonica and then examine the content of the two letters in detail. Handouts will be given, and discussion questions will be provided to reinforce the concepts presented. The Peshitta, the standard version of the Bible used in the Syriac church, will be used in class. However, participants may also bring to class any translation they prefer.
Come and join the conversation!
