Monday Memo - July 20, 2020

Good morning, Second Family!

I greet each of you this new week with expectation and confidence in our call to be ambassadors of the love of Jesus Christ. We have great work ahead, and we have one another for support and encouragement along our journey. Remember what Rev. David Berry said in worship yesterday about a theology of hope. Remember that brokenness is not the final word; the final word is now and always God's faithfulness, wholeness, and peace. The videos, events, studies, and more - all below - give us opportunities to respond to God's steadfast love. We welcome you into the work of Second!

As we look ahead, I want you to know that we're taking thoughtful steps toward our shared desire to be physically together for worship and our commitment to prioritize the safety of our community. Faithfully discerning the path ahead and carefully monitoring the situation is so important to each of us. These considerations remain a daily conversation among the leaders of your church. Just last week we met with leaders in our community - from the medical, facilities management, and educational fields, along with senior staff leadership - to share expertise as we discern our next steps and consider every option. We will stay in close touch over the coming weeks, and as always, we will keep holding faith, together.

No matter where we may be, remember that the faithful work of Second Church goes on. This week you can engage in fellowship, discipleship, and more - all ways that we carry out our call to be a welcoming community of faith where Jesus Christ transforms lives.

NEW ASSOCIATE PASTOR OF ENGAGEMENT

Meet Rev. Mike Samson! Our congregation has voted to welcome Rev. Mike Samson (and his family) into the life of Second Presbyterian Church as our new Associate Pastor of Engagement. Praise be to God for the faithful work of this ministry and this new leader at Second! Rev. Samson will officially join our team in September. Welcome Mike, Kelly, Matthew, and Luke!
