Winter(Mission) Olympics

Sundays, 10:30-11 & 12-12:30
McFarland Hall

Gather your friends to form a team for Winter(Mission) Olympics at Second! You'll have a chance to learn, pray, and play together, meeting Jesus at every turn.

Send us your team roster and photo! Then join us in McFarland Hall on Sunday or from home each week.

Athletes train their body and minds to be ready for competition. This winter they will compete in the Winter Olympics. It is different for us, as Christians. We are prepared by faith to be God’s people. Athletes learn skills and routines through practice and training. They will use these tools when they are tested.  The church has prayer, scripture, and confessions to help us through challenges. All three are used to remember and to reach out for the presence of God.

Olympians work for medals, but in every day life, our “metal” can be tested. So, in honor of the Winter Olympics, are you and your family ready to test your “metal” (i/o “Medal”)? Take up the challenge as individuals or as a team to complete in the Winter(Mission)Olympics by learning and reciting four faith statements between February 6 and February 27—then put their faith into action. Parents will get “training notes” each week, so you'll be ready for each week's event.

Reach your goal and finish the course by completing each week's challenge. Why do we do this? These passages are tenets of our faith that when memorized become touchstones our children (and all of us) can use throughout our lives.

  • Week 1: February 6 -- John 3:16
  • Week 2: February 13 -- Psalm 23
  • Week 3: February 20 -- The Lord's Prayer
  • Week 4: February 27 -- The Apostle's Creed

Questions? Contact Kat Green-Ross.

IN PERSON

Each week, complete your challenge by checking in at the WinterMission tables in McFarland Hall, when you grab a donut or something.

  1. Show what you’ve learned, by having one team member recite the week’s scripture, prayer, or confession to Ann, Kat, or Brian.
  2. Tell how you have prayed this week.
  3. Share how you put that prayer into action by helping others.
  4. THEN! Tie up a ribbon for how you met Jesus this week.

AT HOME

  1. Send a video of your “check in” to CFM@SecondChurch.org.
  2. Include someone on your team saying the week’s Bible passage you learned.
  3. Tell us how you prayed this week. Was it at dinner table, before bed, by helping others? Yep, service is prayer in action.
  4. Speaking of “Prayer in action,” complete one mission/service action. What did you do for others? Food pantry donation, card for others, text a friend, etc.
  5. Most importantly! Send us a pic of how you met Jesus this week! Silly or serious! Remember that we can meet Jesus every day.
