Christmas Benevolence

Living Faith

I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me…Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me. -- Matthew 25:35-36, 40

Christmas Benevolence is one of the oldest mission traditions of Second Presbyterian Church. It is a church-wide project sponsored by the Deacons. Christmas Benevolence carries the Good News in the form of practical help to families in our community in need of assistance. It provides Bibles, food, clothing, personal items and gifts. It brings Christian love, encouragement and support to people identified by social service agencies. Those who have volunteered and served throughout the years have received in return the joy of knowing that they have been, for a little while, the hands and feet of Christ.

See how Christmas Benevolence has transformed the lives of two families, who met on Delivery Day:

Christmas Benevolence requires the support of many volunteers. With approximately 800 volunteer slots, there is literally a volunteer opportunity for everyone. Individual and families can sign up in-person on Sundays in McFarland Hall or on-line through SignUpGenius.

We are excited to begin preparations for this year’s 4 p.m. Christmas Eve Family Worship service. Our goal is to provide a meaningful worship experience for young children and their families through music, Scripture, and drama. Children will have the opportunity to participate in the service at various levels based on their interest, age and ability, and their family’s willingness to make a time commitment.

Those children who are interested in participating in presenting the service should closely examine the requirements for each role. Please take note of the dates and times required for attendance. It is important that all participants attend every rehearsal as indicated so that the service conveys the dignity and wonder befitting the occasion.

When you register for any role, you are agreeing to attend ALL of the following which apply. Please note all dates are Sundays:
