About our June speaker:

Carl Snipes was born the 4th of five siblings in Logansport, Indiana, in 1951. He grew up on a small family farm near Delphi, where he learned all about milking cows and feeding calves, chickens, and pigs, growing a large garden, and growing corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay. He graduated from Delphi High School then went on to earn a B.A. in chemistry from Wabash College and a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry from Purdue University. After post-doc research at the University of Basel, Switzerland and the University of Illinois in Urbana, he worked for the Dow Chemical Company for 27 years as a research scientist searching for natural products that could be used for pest and disease control in agriculture. After retirement from Dow, he pursued a second career as a high school science teacher and earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Marion University. He taught chemistry and biology at introductory and advanced placement levels at Arsenal Technical High School for eight years.

Carl and his family moved from Midland, Michigan, to Carmel, Indiana, in 1990 and joined Second Presbyterian, where he has served as Sunday school teacher, Deacon, co-chair of Christmas Benevolence, Elder, member of the Session Formation Committee, a Godly Play storyteller, a member of the Spiritual Practices team, and hospitality team leader for Sunday morning hosts. He has been married to his loving wife Cindi for 52 years, and they have three children: Katie, Ben, and Evan, and five grandchildren: Harrison, Rose, Theo, Esther, and Cooper.
