About our December speaker:
Rick Dayton is an accomplished media executive and community leader with more than three decades of experience in broadcast journalism. He serves as Executive Reporter at WRTV-TV in Indianapolis where he oversees editorial direction, is a mentor to other journalists, and leads innovative initiatives, including the launch of the Scripps Neighborhood News project in Indianapolis and the creation of an AI Advisory Council to guide responsible technology use in journalism.
Throughout his career Rick has held on-air and leadership roles in North Carolina, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. His work at KDKA in Pittsburgh earned national recognition from Barrett Media and the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters. During his years as a sportscaster, he covered ACC basketball, football, and baseball, NASCAR, the PGA Tour, the NBA, and the NFL in North Carolina.
Outside the newsroom, Rick hosted the annual Rick Dayton Pro-Am Golf Tournament, which raised more than $100,000 annually for the American Cancer Society, and he organized the #Hero100 Golf Marathons to support Folds of Honor scholarships for children of military members and first responders killed or disabled in the line of duty. His commitment to service extends to his faith community, having served as an ordained elder, deacon, trustee, and Sunday School teacher at various Presbyterian churches.
Rick graduated from The College of Wooster where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication and Rhetoric and met his wife, Jenny. They have been married for 36 years, and they have three adult sons who live in Dallas, Charlotte, and Pittsburgh. At Second Rick is involved with Men@Second and Jenny sings in the Sanctuary Choir and plays saxophone with the Second Chamber Players. Rick and Jenny traveled to South Africa with the choir earlier this year and Rick shot, edited, and narrated a video to document the trip for the Music & Fine Arts Department.
Rick will share his faith journey, reflecting on finding joy in a comparison-driven world and the ways Christ has remained faithful through every high and low.
