Join us for a conversation with Indianapolis native poet and writer, spoken word artist, hip-hop emcee, educator, social justice advocate, and practicing contemplative Manon Voice as we discuss the usage of coded language within African-American Spirituals and other genres of the African diaspora. Often, the texts of these art forms go beyond the ostensible and have hidden messages of survival and hope. We hope to illuminate the deeper messages of these songs and texts.
