Monday Memo - August 10, 2020

Hello Second Family,

I’m thinking of you as we step out into this new week – a week where God is already waiting for you, already ahead of you, ready to walk with you. Just like Jonah, remember God’s Spirit goes with you wherever your feet may travel. Know that those words – that promise of scripture – is for each of you, no matter what journey or new beginning this week may bring. Jonah’s story is all about God’s relentless love and pursuit; it’s a story of the irresistible grace of God. It’s a story we can carry with us into each new chapter, with confidence and with hope.

As promised, you’ll find a two-part conversation below with Chandy John, MD, MS, and Ryan White Endowed Chair in Pediatric Infectious Diseases and director of the Ryan White Center for Pediatric Infectious Disease Global Health at Indiana University School of Medicine. In worship yesterday, we learned about the power of God’s word – never distant or detached, delivered with a sense of calling and expectation. I think you’ll hear this faithful calling in Chandy’s work. Our conversation includes listening for that call, putting it into action, praying amidst the strife, and much more.

Remember this, beloved children of God: Our God is always at work within us. And over the next four weeks, through the story of Jonah, we will explore the depth of that work. We will seek and listen for God’s word calling us towards faithful living. As we do that, ask yourself this week: Where do you hear the voice of God calling you to come alive?

Let’s dive deeper into the heart of God’s providence and grace, together.

With peace and grace,
Chris
