Hello Second Family,
As promised, you’ll find a two-part conversation below with Chandy John, MD, MS, and Ryan White Endowed Chair in Pediatric Infectious Diseases and director of the Ryan White Center for Pediatric Infectious Disease Global Health at Indiana University School of Medicine. In worship yesterday, we learned about the power of God’s word – never distant or detached, delivered with a sense of calling and expectation. I think you’ll hear this faithful calling in Chandy’s work. Our conversation includes listening for that call, putting it into action, praying amidst the strife, and much more. Remember this, beloved children of God: Our God is always at work within us. And over the next four weeks, through the story of Jonah, we will explore the depth of that work. We will seek and listen for God’s word calling us towards faithful living. As we do that, ask yourself this week: Where do you hear the voice of God calling you to come alive? Let’s dive deeper into the heart of God’s providence and grace, together. With peace and grace,
Dr. Chandy John and Rev. Chris Henry As a leader in the field of infectious disease and a regular worshipper at Second, Dr. Chandy John shares his story of calling, pursuit, and faith. Part one of this conversation discusses our steadfast calling to love thy neighbor as thyself, along with discerning God’s call in our own lives, putting personal faith into action, and the effects and realities of infectious disease. Part two includes conversation about the nature of hope, looking for God amidst the broken, and serving the underserved. We invite you to listen in to this thoughtful conversation!
Join in the conversation! Zoom in next Wednesday to learn from and listen to Rev. Sara Hayden. Everyone is welcome to be part of this thoughtful discussion, hosted by Second Act!
Let's pray together! Our weekly prayer services continue each Thursday. This week join Rev. Madison VanVeelen on Facebook Live, with Rev. Gracie Payne moderating comments. If you missed last week, watch Dr. John Koppitch and listen to the prayers shared for our community and our world. Among other concerns, we will be praying particularly for students and teachers as a new school year begins.
