Good afternoon, Second Family! A new week begins and our ministries continue! Thank you for the many ways you are engaging in the life of Second – learning, praying, studying, and serving as the body of Christ. In the days ahead, I invite you to consider how you might make a difference in your own faith journey or that of another – join us virtually for Compassion Camp, support Washington Township students, help a Greenbriar Elementary School classroom, spend time in God's word. Together, we are advancing important and faithful work and the many missions we are called to love and nurture as people of God.
Rev. Madison VanVeelen's sermon yesterday captured some of the emotional ambivalence of our time. Like Jonah, we experience a full range of emotions – anger, frustration, repentence, gratitude – but we know it is God’s nature to be merciful. As Rev. VanVeelen said, it’s when mercy is least expected that it is the most potent. Real mercy leads to transformation and healing. Let us graciously accept and extend mercy as we continue holding faith, together.
SERVING: LOCAL STUDENTS NEED OUR HELP! Back to School Supply Kit Workdays As in years past, our mission work supporting local Washington Township students goes on! Working with other congregations, we will continue this tradition and provide much needed supplies to nearly four times more students than last year – assembling more than 1,500 Back to School supply kits for middle school students. COME TO COMPASSION CAMP - Continues this Wednesday, July 29, 7 p.m.
What fun we had last week! Join us as we keep this camp going – virtual sessions for the whole family! Zooms, videos, activities, and more will help cultivate compassion for each other, ourselves, and the world. Mark your calendars for Wednesday evening and Sunday morning virtual gatherings (email for Zoom details), or you can go to camp online anytime!
