Today’s prelude and postlude come from Maurice Duruflé’s larger work—Prélude, Adagio et Choral varié sur le thème du Veni Creator, Opus 4. This 1930 composition garnered first prize in a competition organized by the Friends of the Organ, a Parisian organization. It is dedicated to one of his many teachers, Louis Vierne. A tireless perfectionist, Duruflé composed only a handful of organ works. Veni Creator, along with Suite, Op. 5, represent the only two organ works of symphonic stature by Duruflé.
