HYMN #483 Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above is one of five hymns written by Johann Jakob Schütz (1640 -1690). A civil lawyer practicing in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, he was also active in the Lutheran Pietist movement. Pietism arose in the 17th century as a response to the sacramental and confessional theology of Lutheran Orthodoxy by emphasizing the more personal and devotional aspects of Christian life.
