Take A Second - April 1, 2020

"Nothing can separate us from the persistent promise of God's love."

-- Rev. Chris Henry

"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:35)

As we move through each day, we know that we are held in God's grace. One way to feel the power of that grace is through the gift of prayer. Read on to find new ways you can join with Second to lift our community and world in prayer.

JOIN US THIS WEEK FOR PALM SUNDAY ONLINE ONLY AT 11 AM
(For details on how to watch, visit SecondChurch.org/Live.) Though we will not be meeting each other in the Sanctuary at Second, we can still welcome Holy Week together.

HOLDING FAITH, TOGETHER...IN PRAYER

One of the ways we hold faith, together, is through the power of prayer. Intimate and private for some, collective and shared for others, prayer transcends us all. As we continue to engage our faith and care for one another, we invite you to pray. And we invite you to share your prayer needs with us, so we may pray for you.

How can we meet in prayer?

1. Partnered in Prayer during Holy Week.

As we partner in prayer, we invite you to do so with renewed intention. As a family or as an individual, we encourage you to sign up for a 15-minute window of prayer (or more) to fully cover our journey to Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Help us walk towards Easter, carried in prayer, and feel the presence of our fellowship. Sign up at Partnered in Prayer.

2. Evening Prayer This Thursday, April 2, 7:30 PM, Facebook Live.

With traditional evening prayer adapted from The Book of Common Worship, this short worship service will include prayers of thanksgiving and intercession, and readings from the Old and New Testament. Led by our pastors, we will hold our community in sacred fellowship united by prayer. You are welcome to submit specific prayer requests ahead of the evening (by emailing Together@SecondChurch.org), so our leaders can lift up your voice with a strong sense of togetherness. Please indicate if you’d like this prayer to be shared and read aloud, or kept in tender privacy. We invite you to join us in reverence, hope, and faith, anchored in prayer.

3. Staying Connected.

Do you feel the power of our fellowship deepening and bringing us closer to God as the body of Christ? So many of you have found new ways to do this together. We want to be certain each of you feels this compassion and love of our community of faith at work. Email us at Together@SecondChurch.org if you need help feeling that sense of connection. You can also email us here to share the ways you are connecting with your loved ones. We are walking this road together.

NORTHSIDE FOOD PANTRY CONTINUES TO SERVE OUR NEIGHBORS

Did you see the WRTV News story about how our food pantry is working to meet the needs of our neighbors? We have food and are offering curbside delivery.

If you'd like to help, please sign up online. We can only have ten volunteers at a time, so we need to know if you are coming. If you have questions about signing up, email Lisa Enright.

Northside Food Pantry volunteers are bringing food to clients' cars, curbside. Remaining hours this week are:

  • Thursday, 10 a.m. - 12 noon
  • Saturday, 10 a.m. - 12 noon

Northside Food Pantry purchases most of its food through Gleaners. If you would like to help keep the pantry shelves stocked, you can donate online and select "Northside Food Pantry" in the drop-down menu.
