2008 Habitat for Humanities Build
“Building a Legacy of Caring”

Second Presbyterian Church has sponsored the building of 16 homes with Habitat for Humanity over the last 12 years. Our volunteers have invested thousands of hours and raised over $400,000 to help 17 Indianapolis families become homeowners on an affordable basis. In addition, we have helped rehabilitate several Indianapolis neighborhoods with quality housing through the Habitat for Humanity program.

Our homeowner , Angela Hurns, has attended classes to learn the basics of home ownership and maintenance, and she will be investing many hours of “sweat equity” in the building of her new home. Volunteers from Second Presbyterian Church are needed to help her with framing, roofing, siding, trim work, painting and landscaping. Construction will begin with a special kick- off in the north parking lot of our church on August 2.  We will be building the paneled walls for our home and will wrap up on September 19 with the dedication of our home with Angela.  This year’s schedule will feature volunteer workdays on Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the on-site construction phase.

Volunteer sign-ups began on Sunday, July 6 in McFarland Hall. This year’s fundraising commitment to Habitat for Humanity will be $70,000.

No prior construction experience is required to participate in this great project. Come join our friends to help another family become homeowners and help build a better community for our Indianapolis neighbors.

Sign-up to volunteer for Habitat each Sunday during the months of July and August in the McFarland Hall. Volunteers are needed to help build as well as deliver lunch to the worksite.
