Caroline Dennis is our Associate Pastor for Children and Family Ministry. Caroline holds a Master of Divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, GA, a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Oglethorpe University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Davidson College. She has worked with children throughout her career, first as a child care director at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, then as a teacher in the Atlanta Public Schools.
Caroline is married to Phillip Dennis, an ordained minister. The Dennises have two daughters, Helen and Hannah, and a son, Jacob. Along with her family, Caroline enjoys attending the theater, storytelling, trips to the beach and the mountains, and bike riding.
Katherine "Kat" Barden is a Certified Christian Educator and ruling elder in the PC(USA). She grew up in Indiana and graduated from Columbus North High School. Her education includes a B.A. from Sewanee-The University of the South studying French-Music-Religion, M.A. from Eden Theological Seminary in Pastoral Studies, and an M.Li.S. from the University of Missouri in Information Science and Learning Technologies.
Kat and her two children, John and Allie, have lived and served congregations in Texas, Kentucky, and Missouri. Kat has been serving for the last several years as a librarian at Westminster College in Fulton, MO, even as she has continued volunteer involvement with children in her church. Storytelling, crafts, and playful theology are Kat’s favorite ways of engaging children in learning about the Bible and the life of a Christian.
She is an avid soccer fan and can’t wait to cheer for the Indy Eleven. Kat’s daughter, Allie studies nursing in Austin, Texas and her son, John is a software engineer in Kansas City. Homer, the rescued lurcher/greyhound mix, lives with Kat.
Cara has been the Director of Children’s Circle Preschool since January of 2010. She works with almost 200 families with children ages nine months to five years. She is passionate about play based focus for preschool, and loves to watch young children as they learn and grow.
Prior to joining the staff of Second, Cara served as the Assistant Director and Music teacher at a preschool in Carmel, Indiana. She also taught fifth grade in Carmel Schools before starting a family. Cara received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hanover College in Elementary Education.
Cara and her husband Mark have two children, Maggie and Meredith. In her free time, Cara enjoys biking, crafts, and reading.
